Brass and aluminum forging: automation and innovation at Brawo Spa

In the modern field of manufacturing industry, operative efficiency is not only a competitive leverage, but an essential condition to grant sustainability, quality and service.

In a more and more demanding global context, the optimization of production processes through automation and the elimination of activities with no added value represents a strategic milestone for companies that want to grow, innovate and stand out.

Automation as transformation leverage

At the base of every industrial transformation, the key question is: how can we do it better and faster?

In Brawo Spa we believe that the answer lies in a concrete and structured approach to optimizing internal processes. Every movement, every flow, every interaction between departments should contribute directly to creating value.

During 2024 we started an ambitious project aimed at automating the internal logistics flows between Bar Cutting, Graphitization and Forging departments.  

A new automated WIP warehouse

The heart of this initiative is the installation of an automated WIP warehouse with stacker crane and double-depth shelving units, to be used for intelligent stock of bin with material to be graphitized or already graphitized.

The warehouse does not represent only a technical solution, but a strategic choice: transforming the complex and expensive internal logistics into a fluid and precise flow to be monitored in real time.

AGV – Autonomous Guided Vehicles

In support of this advanced logistic architecture, a fleet of AGVs (Autonomous Guided Vehicles) has been installed. With forefront, lateral and rear security systems, they grant continuous and safe handling of bins between the departments.

The automatic interaction with cutting machines allows the bins with billets to be graphitized to be moved and stocked in WIP area. According to the production schedule, the bins will be sent automatically to the graphitization department or directly to forging.

Even the empty bins after the forging process will follow an automated flow. They will be stocked in the warehouse and then positioned near the cutting machines according to real production needs.

This project represents more than a technological investment. It’s the concrete proof of our constant effort searching for efficiency and innovation.
