Since 1976, Brawo S.p.A. has distinguished itself as a leading company in hot forging of brass, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals. But what exactly is the hot forging process? And what are the advantages of this manufacturing technique?
Let’s find out together in this article.
What is hot forging?
Hot forging, sometimes referred to as “forging,” is a process in which metal is heated to a temperature that makes the material plastically deformable without reaching the melting point. The heated metal is then shaped by applying compressive forces using dies.
In Brawo are present 43 presses with different powers and characteristics, enabling the production of parts from 0.01 to 23 kg in weight, with production rates that can reach up to 10.000 pcs per hour.
What are the benefits of hot forging compared to casting?
1. No Porosity Issues: Since the material never reaches the melting point during hot forging, the products are free from porosity issues typical of casting processes.
2 Better structure and higher mechanical characteristics: The heating of the material and the plastic deformation ensures that products made through hot forging have a better structure of the material and fiber alignment consistent with the product’s shape. This condition ensure higher mechanical properties.
3.Surface finishing: Products made through hot forging have a better surface, reducing the need for additional machining operations.
What can Brawo offer its clients?
In addition to the typical advantages of hot forging, Brawo, thanks to its know-how and wild range of machinery, can offer the highest level of service to its customers.
With state-of-the-art simulation software, we can optimize the design of the forged product to minimize material removal in the following machining phases, thereby reducing material usage, production time, and costs.
